Balta Sultan

Balta Sultan is a valley lake of about 14 hectares in the commune of Alexandru Odobescu, Călărași county, closed to the south by the dam on which the county road DJ307A passes. The lake winds north for almost a kilometer, with a wide bay near the dam, reeds at the north end and willows and tall trees on the banks. The lake is periodically restocked, and the stockings are announced publicly. Carp, grass carp (cteno), crucian carp, zander, bighead carp, silver carp and sturgeon are caught. All the catch is kept, without a weight limit: carp and grass carp between 1 and 7 kg, crucian carp and zander; the rest of the fish is released. The 67 swims are numbered and placed on both banks, and the dirt roads on the banks allow access by car behind them. Camping with a tent or caravan is free, there are grills at the swims, and there are lamps for the night on the bank. Bait-boat use is allowed for free only from swims 20 to 28 and 61 to 67. The lake is open 24 hours a day.
