Where to Take Fishing Lake Bookings? Phone, Facebook, Your Site or a Platform

How Romanian fishing lakes take bookings, what each channel costs in money and time, its risks and how to combine them in one calendar.

Every lake takes bookings somehow, even if "somehow" means a phone number on the barrier. The question is not whether you have a booking system, but what yours costs you, in money and in hours, and how many new anglers it brings. Below are the four channels Romanian lakes use, with their 2026 costs, and the way they fit together without double-booking your swims. The figures are Romanian; the comparison holds for any fishery.

In short, most lakes take bookings by phone only, a few have a form or calendar on their own site, a few send anglers to a platform and almost none names Facebook as a booking channel. The phone costs nothing in money and the most in time. Your own site costs from about 350 euros a year with a page builder to a few thousand with an agency, and reaches only the anglers who already know you. A platform puts you in front of anglers searching for a lake and makes the booking count through an online payment, and on LakeBooking listing costs you nothing. Whatever the mix, the rule is one calendar.

How lakes take bookings today

Through 2026 we followed the pages of a number of Romanian lakes to see which channel they name for bookings.

  • The phone is the channel almost everywhere, sometimes alongside Facebook or WhatsApp. "Access by phone appointment only"; one lake takes calls only Tuesday to Friday between 10 and 15 and states that bookings "are NOT made on the Facebook page or on the guards' phone".
  • WhatsApp appears at a few lakes, alone or next to a form. "Bookings are made exclusively by WhatsApp message."
  • Facebook is named as a booking channel by very few lakes. "By phone or on the Facebook page."
  • A form, an account or a calendar on the lake's own site exists at a few lakes, from a form with name, phone and date to an account with its own dashboard; at some, the bookings page does not even load.
  • A booking platform is used by a few lakes, and some of them send the "Bookings" button on their own site straight to the platform.

Payment is at the lake almost everywhere; few lakes require online payment. Most Romanian lakes have no website, many have only a Facebook page, and at some the only published contact is a WhatsApp number on the Facebook page.

A site of your own adds up the domain, the hosting, a page builder subscription and booking software with a calendar per swim, which means from about 350 euros a year if you build it yourself and from 1,000 to 3,000 euros with an agency, plus the card fees on every online payment and your own maintenance time. Only the anglers who already know your name reach it.

The phone

It remains the channel of loyal anglers and of questions that do not fit a form. Its problems are the ones you can read in lakes' own rules. "The booking is valid until 08:30", "after a second no-show the angler will not be admitted again", "advance payment of at least 50% to the bank account given by the management". Each of these rules exists because a phone booking commits nobody to anything. A 2026 review at a lake in Giurgiu county says the rest. "I called the number on the barrier, but nobody answered." The angler who gets no answer calls the next lake. How to cut no-shows, whatever the channel, is in the guide to fishing lake bookings without no-shows.

Facebook and WhatsApp

The Facebook page is the lake's shop window and should stay. As a booking system, though, it has no calendar, does not know which swim is free and keeps no record. WhatsApp Business is free and brings a few useful tools, a business profile, quick replies, an automatic away message, labels for conversations. It has no calendar per swim either.

Two things to keep in mind if bookings move to messages. First, the angler list in your phone is a database of personal data; you may use it for their bookings, but mass promotional messages need a consent you can prove, and the list should not live only in a personal phone's contacts. Second, in Romania a deposit received by bank transfer is documented with an invoice and the bank statement, while cash and card takings at the lake go through the fiscal cash register; confirm the exact documents with your accountant. This is general information, not tax advice.

Your own site

A site of your own makes sense for the lake that wants to look like a destination, with big photos, cabins and the story of the place. For bookings, the picture is this.

  • The real cost is not the domain and hosting, it is the booking software and the maintenance time. A contact form is not a calendar. A booking module with availability per swim costs money, needs configuring and needs updating when you change prices.
  • Who reaches it are the anglers who know your name. The angler who simply wants a lake nearby will not come across a new site until after years of content work.
  • The duties are those of any online sale, the company's identity, the total price with taxes, the cancellation terms shown before confirmation, data protection. A session booked for a specific date is a leisure service with a fixed date, so in the EU you may have your own cancellation policy instead of the 14-day withdrawal right, but the policy has to be shown before the angler pays. Check the exact articles with an adviser.

If you already have a site, keep it. The only question is where the "Book" button sends people.

A booking platform

A platform solves exactly what the other three do not. It puts you in front of anglers searching for a lake in your county without knowing your name, keeps the calendar per swim and makes the booking count through an online payment. Its cost sits in the payment model, and that is where to read carefully.

  • Who pays the commission. A commission paid by the angler, included in the displayed price, does not come off what you collect. A commission paid by you, or a monthly subscription, adds up over a year, not a month.
  • Where the session is paid. At the lake, as before, or online, in full or in part. Each version changes your cash flow and your paperwork.
  • Who controls the calendar, prices and rules. They must be yours, with phone bookings blocked by you in the same calendar.
  • What happens to the anglers' data and the reviews if you leave.
  • Whether your page on the platform is easy to find for anglers who know your lake, not only for those browsing the platform.

These questions apply to any platform, ours included. Our answers are below.

Combining them in one calendar

You do not choose a channel, you choose a calendar. The phone stays for loyal anglers, Facebook for posts and photos, the site for the story, the platform for new anglers and for the booking itself. The rule that holds them together is that every booking taken by phone or message is blocked immediately in the calendar where online bookings are made, with a note. The swim no longer shows as free anywhere and nobody arrives to find their spot taken.

Then move loyal anglers towards online booking without forcing them, with the page link after every session, a QR code at the gate and on the rules board, the same prices on every channel. How you bring in new anglers is in the guide to attracting more anglers to your lake, and how a price ladder that can be published looks in the guide to fishing lake pricing.

What this means on LakeBooking

Listing is free, with no subscription and no listing fee. The lake page appears in the lake directory and on the county pages, in two languages, with the swims on a map, the packages, prices, rules and calendar. The angler picks the package, dates and swim, sees the final price and confirms the booking with an online payment, and you collect the session at the lake, in cash or on your own card terminal, as before. You choose whether bookings confirm automatically or one by one, you block phone-booked swims in the calendar, and every booking has its own conversation and a reminder the evening before. Your anglers, with their history, messages and reviews, sit together in the dashboard. The lake page has its own address, which you put on Facebook, on your site and on the QR code at the gate, so anglers who know you land straight on it. The payment details are in the guide on payments, payouts and taxes, and the answers to the questions above on the page for lake owners, where you can also ask us to build the listing for you. If you want your own website next to the lake page, or photos and a video of the lake, the services page says what the team does and how to ask.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a booking website for a lake cost? From about 350 euros a year if you build it yourself, with a domain, hosting, a page builder and booking software with a calendar, and from 1,000 to 3,000 euros with an agency. Add the card fees and your own maintenance time, and only anglers who already know your name reach it. On LakeBooking the same page, with calendar, packages and online payment, is free.

Can I take bookings on my Facebook page? You can receive messages, but the page has no calendar per swim and keeps no record. Very few lakes name Facebook as a booking channel, and some state in writing that bookings are not taken there. Keep the page for posts and send bookings to a calendar.

Do I keep phone bookings if I join a platform? Yes. Loyal anglers will keep calling. You block the swim in the platform's calendar for those dates, with a note, and it no longer shows as free online.

What do I ask a booking platform before listing? Who pays the commission and whether there is a subscription, where the session is paid, who controls the calendar, prices and rules, what happens to the anglers' data and the reviews, and whether your page is easy to find for anglers who know your lake.

What does LakeBooking cost? Nothing to list and no subscription. The booking fee terms are on the page for lake owners.
