Balta Zătun

Balta Zătun is a long and narrow lake, of about 28 hectares, on the bank of the Danube, approximately 15 km from Galați. It is located within the Bădălan embankment, at the 76th Mile of the Danube (Cotul Pisicii area), and is part of the Lower Prut Floodplain Natural Park. It can be reached via the E87, towards Giurgiulești: after crossing the irrigation canal, turn right and continue on the asphalt road on the Danube dike (DJ 251E). In the lake live carp, crucian carp, grass carp and bighead carp, and among the predators catfish, pike and zander. The lake is stocked every spring: in March 2026 it received another two tons of carp of 1.5 to 2 kg. Fishing is done from 62 wooden pontoons, with two spots each, lined up along the west bank and the dike at the north end; the east bank, across the water, is bordered by a dense row of trees. The leisure complex on the shore has parking, toilets, grills, tables and benches, reed umbrellas, gazebos, playgrounds for children, a beach area, wildlife and flora observation towers and 27 wooden cabins for accommodation. The complex is managed by the Galați County Council, and the gate is open between 06:00 and 20:00.
