About fishing in Galați
Three big rivers meet at Galați, the Danube, the Siret and the Prut, and beside the city lies Brateș, the best known lake in the county, wide and blown on by the wind off the steppe.
That meeting is where the variety comes from. The Danube gives catfish, wild carp and asp, especially around the confluences where the current breaks. Brateș, wide and shallow, fishes well for crucian carp, carp and predators. Along the Siret valley towards Tecuci and Movileni sit smaller ponds and fisheries that suit a short session.
June to October is the productive stretch, once the spring flood has run off. The wind off the eastern steppe can be hard, and on Brateș a sheltered bank matters more than the bait.
