About fishing in Mureș
The old Transylvanian Plain ponds are the speciality of Mureș, at Zau de Câmpie, Sărmașu and Fărăgău, while the Mureș river adds chub, nase and barbel from Reghin down to Luduș.
The ponds are reedy waters that fish very well for carp, crucian carp and pike, many of them managed for sport fishing. The Mureș, wide and slow towards Luduș, also holds carp in its deeper runs. Bezid, in the south, is a wooded reservoir, and towards Gurghiu and Sovata the trout streams begin.
May, June and September are the best months. On the ponds, summer calls for an early start, and by late autumn pike become the main target.
