Fishing lakes in Cluj, Romania

Two worlds of fishing sit inside an hour of Cluj-Napoca: the cold reservoirs of the Someșul Cald at Fântânele, Tarnița and Gilău, and the old ponds at Țaga, Geaca and Cătina.

West, towards Gilău and Beliș, the water is deep and cold, holding predators and trout in mountain scenery. East, out on the Transylvanian Plain, centuries old ponds give reeds, carp, crucian carp and pike, several of them managed for sport fishing. The fisheries with built swims cluster around the city and along the roads to Turda and Dej.

May, June and September are the most consistent months. On the reservoirs, water level matters and it moves through the summer. On the ponds, early morning beats the middle of the day by a wide margin.
