Fishing lakes in Arges, Romania

Arges is dam country: the chain of lakes on the Argeș river drops from Vidraru and Curtea de Argeș through Budeasa, Bascov, Golești and Pitești, and the carp waters start south of there.

Vidraru, high under the Făgăraș ridge, is cold predator water, while the lakes nearer Pitești hold carp, crucian carp and zander, with good access off the Transfăgărășan road. South of the city, towards Costești and Topoloveni, the land opens out and managed fisheries take over, most of them under an hour away. The Râul Doamnei, Vâlsan and Râul Târgului stay trout water.

Spring and autumn are the most consistent on the Argeș reservoirs. In summer the dammed water is slow to warm and the fishing moves to the night shift. Mountain streams need a permit and a close read of the season rules.
