Fishing lakes in Timiș, Romania

The Banat plain is full of managed water: around Timișoara, the old gravel workings at Giarmata, Dumbrăvița, Ianova and Pișchia have become carp fisheries with built swims.

Many are twenty minutes from the city, with platforms and parking at the peg. The Bega, through town and on towards Lugoj, is slow water holding crucian carp, bream and perch. Surduc, to the north east, is a reservoir set among hills with carp and predators. The Timiș and the Bârzava round out the river fishing, with chub and nase.

The Banat warms early, giving one of the longest seasons in the country, March to November on the deeper lakes. Summers are fierce, and night fishing becomes the rule rather than the exception.
